About Us - Hardy Group

Started in September 2012 by Heather and Dave Roberts and Sue and Geoff Atherton the group has grown hugely and in October 2016 registered as a charity. November 2022 saw us reach 10 years since our first group activity and we celebrated with an afternoon tea attended by members, volunteers and trustees along with a few special guests.

Our activities are specifically designed to break down social isolation and improve well-being. Our members have told us that being part of a group that shares a common experience helps them feel normal again so that they can relax, be themselves and just have fun.

For our carer members, it has provided a break in the relentless duties of caring by providing interesting distractions for the one they care for as well as opportunities for them to share their problems with other members who have a similar experience. Many of our members have built new friendships which extend beyond our meetings and trips out.

Supporting Professionals

Professionals such as local psychiatrists, social workers, the memory assessment service and the dementia support service in Derby actively promote membership of our group to people diagnosed with dementia.

Our active community also provides a focal point for other services to readily access people living with dementia. Other service providers use our group to promote what they offer.

We are a voluntary organisation funded from grants, donations and fundraising activities. We have an annual membership fee of £5 per person and we do ask for a small donation towards the cost of our coach trips.
