The home is generally regarded as the place where we feel safest, but it is also the place where the overwhelming majority of fire deaths and injuries occur. Many people are at risk from fire in the home, from families with young children to older people living alone. A fire can start very easily and spread with speed.
A Safe and Well visit will provide you with actions and advice to help make your home a safer place and protect you and your family from the risks of fire, it will also provide you with a fire escape plan to follow should the unthinkable happen. A Safe and Well Visit will also identify any health and care needs that need signposting to local services to help ensure your safety and wellbeing.
Who can have a Safe and Well Visit?
We target areas and households where we know there is a higher risk of fire, primarily the more vulnerable groups in the community.
During the visit we will provide you with fire safety advice within your property, along with recommendations specific to your home and the people who live there. We may also fit smoke alarms and provide additional safety equipment if they are needed. All of these services are provided free of charge.
A visit will, on most occasions, reduce the immediate risks of fire within the home. However, on some occasions our employees will work with our partner agencies to ensure vulnerable individuals are safe; consideration towards the installation of a fire sprinkler unit may form part of this strategy.
